MAP Testing in March....

Image result for kids working on a computer

We will take the Reading and Math MAP tests on the laptops in March after spring break. Be sure to remind your kids to complete MAP language arts and math at home. The suggested time is for 30 minutes for each one time a week. Students who have completed this at home and at school have been able to make their expected growth.

iSpace and the International Space Station...

Wow... what a week! We had iSpace where the kids made rockets and tested them out! Then saw some cool Science experiments too! Plus we got to watch the 2nd graders talk to the International Space Station... Maple Dale was 1 of 9 schools in the country chosen to talk to the ISS!

Maps....

We finally finished our MAPs! The students created their own town, village, amusement parks, schools, cities of their dreams! We had some very creative maps! Each map had to inlclude a map key, compass rose, 2 landforms, 2 man made structures, and a body of water. They then had to write a paragraph describing their maps. Each paragraph had to have a topic sentence, 3 details, and a conclusion sentence.... We have some creative kiddos!

Go Math...Chapter 8

We will focus on two-digit addition and subtraction. Take a look at our I Can statements for this chapter. I Can:

  • Add and subtract within 20.
  • Draw and use models and manipulatives to add two-digit numbers.
  • Solve and explain two-digit addition word problems using the strategy "draw a picture."

Kindness Matters....

On Friday (Valentine's Day) we filled our day with being kind! We designed Kindness Mats with our names on it then everyone walked around and wrote kindness sentences to each other! To be honest, I have never seen such happy smiling faces as when the kids got back to their own desk and read all the sentences! My heart was so full and melted just through their little beaming smiles! Everyone asked if I could have them laminated because this would be something that they can use forever! So they are off being laminated and hopefully this will be a mat that they can cherish for years to come!

Go Math...Chapter 7

Chapter 7 focuses on comparing numbers. Take a look at the I Can statements. I Can:

  • Model and compare two-digit numbers using symbols.
  • Solve problems using the strategy "make a model".
  • Identify numbers that are 10 less or 10 more than a given number.
Comparing Numbers

This is a picture of the link below....Splat Game

Click here:    Splat Square Reveal 100    This link might help to practice adding and subtracting 10 to a number. One person can hit a number and the other person figures out how many is ten more and ten less. Encourage the idea that you are adding or subtracting 10 to the tens place not the ones place.  It is also great practice for adding and subtracting 1 and 10 on a number chart.

Penguin Poetry...

Check out some of our cute little penguins that were brave to share, sing, dance, and reading their poems! We even went to other classrooms to show off our talent! I was so proud of the little penguins and being so brave to show off their talent! Way to go little penguins!

Math Homework....

I just wanted to give you a heads up about how students can easily show their way to make a number. I did the first one so you can give a reminder if anyone forgot.

Bookfair is coming....

The bookfair is coming to Maple Dale.
